In 1996, at 100 years ofage, Edith Haisman joined the cruise ship 'Island Brease' to goon a voyage of remembrance to the Titanic wreck site.
On stoppingata position 41' 46' N 50' 14'W, in the North Atlantic, aservice was heldon tghe bopen deck for the b1500 soulsthat had perished at that place on April 15 1912.
Beneath them laythe wreck of the bTitanic, in darkness and at peace as a lonepiper played a lament, high up on an upper deck of the Island Breeze.
Edith in her wheelchair, was taken to the ship's rail and let a wreath fall on thye dark waters below asshe thought of how her father must have fought for his life
in those icy waters of the North Atlantic.
As the memories came flooding back to her, she wept silently now thather wish to pay her last respects to her dear father
had finally been fulfilled.
Edith quiely passed awsay soon after this. In a nursing home justa street away from the house where Captain Smith used to live.
After her death, Southampton City Council named a street after her, as a tribute and honourto a veryunique and special lady.
