Many of you may have heard that Allerdale Borough Council have plans to close the Maryport Maritime Museum, but there is a
chance that the running of the museum could be taken over as a trust.
Most of you will be aware that Thomas Henry Ismay (founder of the White Star Line) was born Maryport and this fact alone
places Maryport at the root of Titanic / White Star Line history, but this is only a part of Maryport's rich maritime
heritage; a heritage which should be preserved for generations to come.
The newly formed 'Maryport Maritime Heritage' is a group of people devoted to preserving the museum and its artifacts and we
need your help. I am asking everyone who wishes to do so, to follow this link and sign the on-line petition in favour.
